Find a camera recording on your Mac with a timeline

Use the calendar, timeline and ordinary MP4 files to review an event and keep the recording you need.

Finding a recording is easier when you can start with the date and narrow down the time. Owl Cam provides a calendar and timeline to browse recorded events on the Mac.

Find and check an event

Choose a date in the calendar, browse the timeline and thumbnails, and play the relevant recording. Check a little before and after the moment you care about: an event may start with pre-roll and continue while a person is detected. Camera availability, detection and lighting still affect what was recorded.

Keep a file you can use elsewhere

Recordings are ordinary MP4 files saved in the folder you choose. Open them with QuickTime, copy them to another drive or archive them. If your folder is cloud-synced, that provider may upload the file. Pro can back up a finished recording to a configured destination; verify the copied file opens.

Add a visible time reference

Pro can burn a timestamp into the video. The timestamp is written on a copy of the frame while detection uses the original image, so the changing digits do not count as motion. Check the Mac’s clock and review a test recording before relying on timestamps. See the FAQ for storage and audio details.
